世界聆听日(WorldListeningProject,缩写：WLP)是一个不以营利为目的的组织，致力于认识世界和地球上的自然环境，通过听和现场录制的方法来观察世界、社会和文化。
WLP成立于2008年，由MidwestSocietyforAcousticEcology、AmericanSocietyforAcousticEcology提供学术支持，并维护这个艺术和教育活动的站点和论坛，开展公众研究会、讲座以及展览。
生活快节奏的城市中我们每天置身于人多车多的闹市，饱受繁忙挤塞的交通带来的噪音干扰。2008年，环境保护署一项研究指出香港现时的交通噪音问题滋扰超过一百万名市民，而建筑工程、通风系统、防盗警钟及邻里所发出不同程度砰砰、轰轰或刺耳的噪音亦影响着市民的生活。
休憩公园的情况会较为理想吗?事实上，香港中文大学2006年一项研究发现，本地有90多个市区公园噪音水平极高，全部超出世界卫生组织建议的55分贝标准，其中最为人熟悉维多利亚公园的平均噪音更达到81分贝，令人有如置身繁忙的高速公路。
我们的耳朵能逃得过噪音吗?噪音会否一一盖过那些我们喜爱的声音?又有什么声音将濒临绝种?加拿大作曲家、教育家、作者及环境保护者MurraySchafer早在四十年前已经提出噪音对人的危害。
他并不是提倡控制噪音，反而采取正面态度，鼓励大家打开耳朵，发掘再次聆听的乐趣。七月十八日是世界聆听日，旨于提升大众对环境声音的关注及使用地境录音(field-recording)的创意，同时鼓励推行声境教育及实践。
世界聆听日为MurraySchafer的出生日，以表示对这位声境研究的先锋者的尊重。他于七十年代发表书本TheSoundscape–OurSonicEnvironmentandTheTuningoftheWorld(1977)，分享他对声态学研究作出的种种判断。他亦为WorldSoundscapeProject的创办人，启发了世界各地很多声态学活动。
